Why Holistic Sanctuary?

What happens when healing is approached as a whole system rather than a single diagnosis?

A diagnosis can be useful, but it does not describe the full context of a person’s health. Mind and body, behavior and environment, sleep and nutrition all influence one another.

Our individualized model considers mind, body, environment, behavior, nutrition, sleep, consciousness, and integration. Where psychedelic medicine is appropriate, it is considered within that wider context rather than treated as a stand-alone answer.

Addressing more of the system does not guarantee recovery. It allows care to be more thoughtful, coherent, and responsive to the person receiving it.

Since 2011

15+ years of evolution.

2011

The sanctuary opens

Holistic Sanctuary began with a private residential model built around individualized attention, careful assessment, and time away from everyday pressures.

15+

Years of direct experience

The approach has continued to evolve through years of working directly with guests, observing response, and refining how each part of care is sequenced.

Today

A framework still evolving

New ideas are considered alongside clinical judgment, established care, and the limits of current evidence. No single modality is treated as a universal answer.

An integrated perspective

The whole system.

Health is influenced by interacting systems. Our role is to understand those relationships, prioritize what is appropriate, and build a coherent plan rather than a collection of isolated services.

01

Mind

Psychological care considers mood, trauma, thought patterns, behavior, sleep, and the personal history surrounding the present concern.

02

Body

Medical review, movement, nutrition, rest, metabolic health, and supportive wellness practices are considered as connected parts of physical wellbeing.

03

Environment

Privacy, ocean air, natural light, and distance from familiar pressures create conditions in which focused care and reflection can take place.

04

Experience

The program is shaped around one person rather than a fixed group schedule, with each stage informed by assessment and response.

05

Integration

Insights become useful through reflection, behavior change, continued support, and practical plans for life beyond the residence.

Mental health, trauma & human wellbeing

The reasons people actually come here.

Most residents arrive carrying something that predates any diagnosis — trauma, depression, chronic stress, a pattern that no longer serves them. Holistic mental health treatment here is individualized, residential, and delivered One on One.

Holistic mental health treatment

PTSD

Post-traumatic stress is treated as a nervous-system condition as much as a psychological one — sleep, safety, and physiology addressed alongside the therapeutic work.

Trauma

Unresolved experience is worked through One on One, at a pace set by the person, rather than rehearsed in a group room.

Depression

Including depression that has not responded to previous treatment. Nutrition, sleep architecture, movement, and psychological work run together.

Anxiety

Daily regulation practices, individualized therapy, and medical review of anything currently prescribed.

Stress & burnout

For people whose physiology has been running at capacity for years — restoration first, insight second.

Behavioral patterns

Compulsive patterns are examined for the function they serve, without moral framing and without a generic curriculum.

No outcome is promised. What is offered is sustained attention, medical oversight, and a plan built for one person at a time.

A different approach to recovery

Recovery, in the broadest sense of the word.

Recovery here does not mean one narrow thing. It means recovering sleep, physical health, clarity, appetite, relationships, and a reason to keep going — rebuilt deliberately, in an order that suits the person rather than the institution.

Sleep

Restoring sleep architecture is often the first measurable change, and the one everything else rests on.

Nutrition

Organic meals cooked to an individual nutritional plan, with repletion of what years of depletion removed.

Physical wellbeing

Movement, breath, cold and heat exposure, and daily restorative sessions — small, repeated, unglamorous work.

Mental wellbeing

Individual psychological sessions every day, adjusted by response rather than by curriculum.

Environment

An oceanfront setting, quiet, and privacy — conditions that make the rest of the work possible.

Behavior

Examining the patterns a person returns to, and what those patterns are being asked to solve.

Relationships

The people someone returns to are part of the plan, not an afterthought at discharge.

Purpose

What the next chapter is for. Recovery that has nothing to return to rarely holds.

Evidence with context

Where conventional medicine meets emerging science.

Holistic Sanctuary is pro-health and pro-evidence—not anti-pharmaceutical. Medication can be appropriate and essential. Decisions about starting, continuing, or changing it belong within qualified medical care, while complementary approaches should be judged by evidence, suitability, and risk.

Established evidence

Foundations of health

Medical assessment, appropriate mental healthcare, sleep, nutrition, movement, and attention to metabolic health are established parts of responsible health practice. Their role depends on the individual and the condition being addressed.

Emerging evidence

Promising areas of study

Psychedelic medicine, photobiomodulation, neuroplasticity, and hyperbaric oxygen for specific indications are active areas of scientific interest. Evidence, regulation, and clinical relevance vary by modality and use.

Experimental concepts

Questions, not conclusions

Novel combinations, off-label applications, and broad longevity or repair claims remain experimental unless supported for a specific use. We do not present early hypotheses as established medical fact.

Our approach · 03

Assessment first. Ceremony last.

Every program follows one order of operations, shaped around one person. Medical oversight runs throughout: our Medical Director reviews and clears every admission, and nursing cover runs twenty-four hours a day.

01

Assessment & clearance

Nothing happens on arrival day except assessment: bloodwork, EKG, cardiac evaluation, and a psychiatric and medication review — completed and physician-reviewed before anything is administered.

02

Stabilisation

Sleep, nutrition, hydration, and electrolytes are addressed first. Where a guest arrives on benzodiazepines, opioids, or psychiatric medication, the taper happens here — in-house, medically supervised, at its own pace.

03

Restoration

The Brain Repair IV protocol and NAD+ infusions run alongside hyperbaric oxygen, red light, and organic nutrition — a daily rhythm of repletion for a depleted nervous system.

04

One on One psychological work

Every therapy hour is delivered individually. No groups, no cohorts, no shared curriculum — a plan built for one person and adjusted by response.

05

Ceremony, sequenced last

Where plant medicine forms part of a plan at all, it comes last — after clearance, stabilisation, and restoration are complete. Never first.

06

Integration & aftercare

Structured integration follows every session, and ninety days of aftercare are planned from week one — because the weeks after treatment carry the highest risk.

The signature protocol · 04

Pouyan Method.

Holistic Sanctuary’s proprietary framework, developed by founder Johnny Tabaie and refined through years of direct experience.

Its distinguishing feature is the order of operations rather than any single ingredient: assessment and stabilization first, restorative support next, deeper therapeutic work when appropriate, and integration throughout. Every plan remains subject to clinical review.

I

Four to twelve weeks

Never five to seven days. There has never been a short-stay version of this protocol, and there will not be one.

II

Every session One on One

Three to five guests at a time — a single guest on the Platinum program. No groups, no cohorts, no shared schedule.

III

Medication-free as the destination

Nobody is moved sideways onto a substitute prescription and discharged.

IV

Tapers happen here

In-house, medically supervised, adjusted clinically — never outsourced, never attempted alone at home.

V

Ceremony is last

Plant medicine sits at the end of the sequence, after clearance and stabilisation — and ibogaine is last even within that.

The sequence

  1. Phase 01

    Clearance

  2. Phase 02

    Stabilisation

  3. Phase 03

    Restoration

  4. Phase 04

    Ceremony, last

Pouyan Method is not a cure and has not been evaluated by the FDA. Plant medicine is not appropriate for every presentation, and some inquiries end with us recommending a different level of care.

The therapies · 05

A portfolio, sequenced — not a menu.

Every modality below is delivered One on One and placed in sequence by clinical assessment. What appears in any individual program is a clinical decision — made after screening, never before it.

I

Psychedelic medicine

Administered only after in-house cardiac and psychiatric screening — One on One, with physicians and nursing staff present.

Ibogaine
Used to interrupt opioid dependence. It carries real cardiac risk, stated plainly — mandatory cardiac clearance, and always last in the sequence.
Ayahuasca
Sequenced after physical stabilisation, for the material underneath a dependence — grief, trauma, the unsaid.
5-MeO-DMT
Short-acting — roughly thirty to ninety minutes — allowing placement within a treatment week rather than consuming it.
Psilocybin
The most studied of the four, with the deepest published literature in depression.
DMT
Administered within the same screening, supervision, and integration framework as every other medicine.
II

IV & cellular protocols

Intravenous and regenerative support, administered under medical supervision across the stay.

Brain Repair IV Protocol
The founder’s proprietary amino acid, nutrient, and cofactor infusion — a supportive component of the daily program.
NAD+ IV therapy
Part of the daily intravenous program during restoration.
Amino acid IV therapy
Nutritional repletion for a depleted system.
Chelation therapy
Heavy-metal detoxification, medically supervised.
Stem cell support
Physician-approved, case by case.
III

Restorative & biohacking

Supportive wellness modalities, run daily alongside the core protocol — never presented as treatments in their own right.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
Daily supportive sessions in the on-site chamber.
Red light therapy
Circulation and recovery.
PEMF
Part of the daily restorative protocol.
Infrared sauna
Deep cleansing and recovery.
Ice baths
Daily cold exposure.
IV

Daily holistic practice

The rhythm that gives the medical work somewhere to land — every session delivered One on One.

Therapeutic massage & lymphatic work
Moving what detox loosens.
Reiki & energy healing
For a nervous system wired from years of medication.
Yoga & guided meditation
Daily, on the beach — reconnecting breath, body, and attention.
Breathwork
Practiced daily, One on One.
Organic juice cleanse & colonics
An organic superfood cleanse and liver-supportive clearing work, alongside meals cooked to a nutritional plan.

Emerging psychedelic therapy · 06

Medicine, under medical supervision.

A medically supervised psychedelic program differs from an underground ceremony in three ways that matter: who screens you, who is in the room, and what happens afterwards. Research into psilocybin, MDMA-assisted therapy, and related compounds is genuinely promising and still emerging — we describe it that way, and never as settled.

Explore psychedelic therapy
Screening

Who screens you

In-house EKG, cardiac stress test, and full bloodwork before any dose — run on site and read by our own physicians. Psychiatric history and current medication are reviewed, and some candidates are declined.

Supervision

Who is in the room

Physicians and nursing staff for the duration of every session, with monitoring and emergency capability on site. One on One throughout — never a group circle.

Integration

What happens afterwards

Weeks of structured integration inside the same program: daily One on One psychological work, sleep and nutrition repair, and concrete planning for the return home.

“Being declined is not a verdict on a person. It means one route is closed — and we will say what else may be open.”

Advanced wellness & biohacking · 07

Restore, daily.

Supportive wellness modalities run every day alongside the core protocol — sequenced individually, and never presented as treatments in their own right.

Advanced wellness at the center

Hyperbaric oxygen

Daily supportive sessions in the on-site chamber.

Red light therapy

Circulation and recovery.

PEMF

Part of the daily restorative protocol.

Infrared sauna

Deep cleansing and recovery.

Ice baths

Daily cold exposure.

IV therapies

Vitamin C, amino acids, and NAD+ — administered under medical supervision.

Specialized treatment

Where substance-related care is part of the picture.

Some residents also need care for a dependence. It is one part of an individualized plan rather than the whole of it, and it is always physician-supervised.

  • Luxury alcohol rehab

    Dedicated page in preparation

Residential care for alcohol dependence, with physician oversight throughout.

  • Luxury alcohol detox

    Dedicated page in preparation

Medically supervised withdrawal management, individually paced. Alcohol withdrawal is never risk-free.

  • Benzodiazepine treatment

    Dedicated page in preparation

Care for benzodiazepine dependence, with medication review and long-horizon planning.

  • Benzodiazepine detox

    Dedicated page in preparation

Physician-directed tapering. Benzodiazepines are never abruptly discontinued here, and should never be stopped alone.

  • Opioid detox

    Dedicated page in preparation

Residential care for opioid dependence, sequenced after medical clearance.

Until those pages are published, the broader model is described on holistic rehab and the holistic treatment center.

The setting

A private environment.

Private accommodations and ocean views create distance from everyday pressures. Organic meals are prepared to a nutritional plan, while wellness technologies and individualized care are sequenced around each guest rather than a shared timetable.

The residential experience · 09

Private, in every sense.

There are no shared rooms and no shared schedules. Each guest lives on a program built for them — with more staff in the building than guests.

Private master suites

Every guest stays individually — a private room with a private bathroom. There are no shared rooms.

Staff outnumber guests

Three to five nurses on every shift, with practitioners, facilitators, and a full kitchen team around them.

A kitchen, not a menu

Organic meals cooked to a nutritional plan, feeding real nutrition into a body doing difficult work.

150+ hours of One on One contact

Per month — preparation, therapy, bodywork, and the hours after a session when the processing happens.

Four to twelve weeks

Length is set by assessment and adjusted by response — never by an insurance calendar.

Days with structure

IV protocols, bodywork, movement, beachfront hours — a daily rhythm refined over fifteen years.

Who we serve · 10

For those who need it to be different this time.

People come to us when conventional treatment has not worked and privacy is not negotiable — for treatment-resistant depression, PTSD and trauma, anxiety, and dependence on opioids, alcohol, benzodiazepines, and prescription medication.

And we say plainly who this is not for: medically unstable candidates, active psychosis, cases that need a hospital rather than a residential program, and anyone sent by someone else who does not want to be here. We would rather decline an admission than manage it badly.

Begin a private consultation
01

Confidential inquiry

A short, private conversation — answered by a real person, with a response within twenty-four hours.

02

Medical & psychiatric review

A complete medication list, recent bloodwork, and cardiac and psychiatric history — reviewed before a place is offered.

03

Physician clearance

Our Medical Director clears — or declines — every admission. Cardiac screening is not negotiable.

04

Arrival & assessment

Travel and logistics handled directly. Assessment begins on day one, and nothing is administered before it is complete.

Johnny Tabaie, founder of Holistic Sanctuary, on an oceanfront balcony at sunset
Johnny Tabaie · Founder & Director of OperationsActual photography

The founder · 11

Johnny Tabaie.

Prescribed psychiatric medication at thirteen. Seventeen treatment programs. A brother lost inside a licensed facility.

Pouyan Method carries a family name because its founder lived the failure of the system it replaces. Johnny Tabaie opened Holistic Sanctuary in 2011 and has directed its operations since — more than thirty thousand hands-on clinical hours across the life of the facility, and personal involvement in every admission. He developed the Pouyan Method and the Brain Repair IV protocol around a single conviction: healing happens one person at a time.

He is not a physician and makes no clinical decisions. Medical care is directed by the facility’s Medical Director, Dr. Jose A. Jimenez, MD, and delivered by the in-house clinical team — a separation we state plainly, for the same reason his name is on the method.

The difference · 12

A different structure — by design.

Private

Every ceremony and every therapy hour, One on One.

Group

Circles of ten to fifty, attention divided.

Individualized

A plan built after assessment, adjusted by response.

Standardized

A fixed curriculum with your name inserted at the top.

Residential

Four to twelve weeks, with integration inside the program.

Short-term

Five-to-seven-day formats built around a single experience.

Integrated

Medical, intravenous, holistic, and ceremonial care in one sequence.

Single-modality

One compound, offered alone.

Group programs and shorter formats genuinely help many people, and for many they are the more accessible choice. They are simply not what we do.

Questions · 13

Asked, and answered plainly.

If your question is not here, ask it directly — every inquiry is private and answered by a real person.

How long is a program?

Programs run four to twelve weeks — the shortest we offer is four weeks, because a session without integration is an experience rather than a treatment. Length is set by medical and psychological assessment and adjusted by response, never by a fixed calendar.

Where is Holistic Sanctuary located?

We operate licensed oceanfront facilities in Baja California and Tulum, Mexico, and have been operating from the same ownership under the same name since 2011.

How private is a stay?

The facility holds a maximum of three to five guests at any one time, and a single-guest option is available. Every guest stays in a private master suite with a private bathroom — there are no shared rooms — and every ceremony and therapy session is delivered One on One.

Is psychedelic therapy medically supervised?

Yes. Every candidate is cleared by in-house EKG, cardiac stress test, and full bloodwork before any dose, with psychiatric history and current medication reviewed by physicians. Nursing staff are present through every session, and ceremony always comes last in the sequence — after clearance, stabilisation, and restoration.

Who is the program for?

People navigating treatment-resistant depression, PTSD and trauma, anxiety, and dependence on opioids, alcohol, benzodiazepines, or prescription medication — particularly when conventional treatment has not worked and privacy is essential.

Who is it not for?

This is the wrong setting for medically unstable candidates, active psychosis, bipolar I or active mania, certain cardiac conditions, and cases that need a hospital rather than a residential program. Some inquiries end with us recommending a different level of care, and we say so on day one.

How do the consultation and enrollment work?

It begins with a short, confidential inquiry — answered by a real person, with a response within twenty-four hours. A full medical and psychiatric review follows, and a place is offered only after our physicians have reviewed bloodwork and cardiac screening. Travel and logistics are then handled directly with you.

What happens after a program ends?

Integration is built into the program itself, and ninety days of structured aftercare follow every stay — planned from week one, because the weeks after treatment carry the highest risk.
