About Holistic Sanctuary
Holistic Sanctuary was founded in 2011 as a licensed holistic healing center for people whose depression, trauma, PTSD, or dependence has already survived conventional treatment. The model is private, residential, medically supervised, and individually written.
What we are
Most people who contact us have already done something. Medication trials. An outpatient programme. Sometimes two or three residential admissions elsewhere. They are not looking for their first attempt at treatment — they are looking for a different structure than the one that did not hold.
That is the specific problem Holistic Sanctuary was built to address. We operate a licensed facility with medical supervision, a small resident count, and a treatment plan authored per person rather than assembled from a standing curriculum. Residents are received in Tulum, Quintana Roo and in Baja California, Mexico, with admissions coordinated from San Diego.
We are direct about what that does and does not mean. Holistic Sanctuary is a licensed medical wellness facility, not a hospital. We do not promise recovery, we do not publish success rates we cannot substantiate, and we do not describe any therapy here as a cure. What we can describe honestly is the level of attention, the clinical supervision, and the length of stay — and those are the variables that differ most from what our residents have tried before.

How we work
Care is delivered One on One. A resident is not placed in a group programme and asked to fit it; the schedule is written around their assessment, their history, and their medication.
Physician-led screening, laboratory work, cardiac review where relevant, and nursing cover on site around the clock. Plant medicine is sequenced only after clearance.
Programmes run four to twelve weeks. Long-standing depression, trauma, and dependence are rarely resolved by a weekend retreat, and we do not present them that way.
Scope of care
Treatment-resistant depression, post-traumatic stress, anxiety, and unresolved trauma — usually in people who have taken psychiatric medication for years and want supervised, structured care rather than another prescription adjustment in isolation. We do not ask residents to abandon pharmaceutical treatment, and we do not position ourselves against psychiatry. Medication decisions are medical decisions, made with clinical oversight.
Alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, and stimulants. Withdrawal is a medical event before it is a psychological one, so detoxification is supervised and sequenced first. Benzodiazepine tapering in particular is slow, individual, and never accelerated for the convenience of a programme calendar.
Acute psychiatric crisis, active suicidality requiring inpatient hospitalisation, unstable cardiac disease, and certain psychiatric diagnoses are exclusions rather than challenges. Screening exists to identify those people and refer them appropriately, not to find a way to admit them.
If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. Nothing on this page is medical advice, and no page on this site can substitute for an assessment by a clinician who has examined you.
